Suzanne Bedford
Lawson, Center Director and Teacher
Suzanne has been a professional actor since 1982. Originally from
Nebraska, Suzanne graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. with
a BFA in Theatre Arts. Moving to NYC after graduation, Suzanne had a
successful musical theatre career. She played opposite of Tom Wopat as
the sexy starlet, Mallory, in City Of Angels on Broadway. Toured
nationally and internationally with Michael Crawford in the Music Of
Andrew Lloyd Webber. Off Broadway she worked with Tom Jones and
Harvey Schmidt on their new work, Colette Collage. She also has
worked in regional theatres across the country. Her national and
regional television commercials ranged from the latest toys to cars to
laundry soap. In 1997, her twin boys, Ben and Dean, were born. Suzanne
decided to redirect her career into teaching and sharing her love of
theatre and music with children. She has taught acting classes for
children from ages 8 to 18. Suzanne has recently been awarded Music Together Certification Level I status, having demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education. The award was granted by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ, Kenneth K. Guilmartin, Founder/Director. Suzanne lives in Mahopac and continues to
sing professionally in the area.
Ellen Spencer, Teacher
A classically trained pianist and soprano, Ellen has enjoyed music in
one form or another every day of her life. Ellen has been the pianist
for the Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church in South Salem and the
Congregational Church in Grafton, MA. She has directed both adult and
children’s choirs. In addition to Music Together, Ellen also teaches
piano. Originally from the Boston area, Ellen and her family live in
South Salem. Her daughter Tess is a vocalist in the John Jay High School
Chorus, and her daughter Juliet studies the flute. In 2008, Ellen was awarded Music Together Certification Level I by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ. Ellen, along with
Beach Boy Brian Wilson, encourages everyone to “add some music to your
day”.
